Training with the Local Women’s Community at the Köprübaşı Public Education Center

On June 22nd, 2022, another training was conducted at the Köprubaşı Public Education Center in Köprübaşı District, Trabzon. Köprübaşı District is one of the focus areas of the LiıtOUTer Project as it is located the upstream of Manahoz River, 19 km to the South of Sürmene District. Any kind of solid waste from the Köprübaşı District can reach the sea through Manahoz Stream.

The training was targeting the local women’s community of the Köprübaşı District. Women and housewives play important roles in family education and litter control in homes and their communities.  Public Education Center is an informal education institution for local women to develope their skills in handicrafts.  In Turkey, such public education center has a vital role in engaging the women and housewives’ community. In the institute, local women recycle used materials for handicrafts.

A total of nine people consisted of the public education center’s staffs, trainers, and trainees who participated in the training. The training was started with a small discussion to assess their understanding of marine litter (sources, impact, and solutions) starting from their daily basis to the complex society. Afterward continued to a sharing experience on household litter handling. Some movies related to the impact of the marine litter were shown to the participants. The training participants were showing their awareness and enthusiasm in dealing with the litter in the house and in their community. In the end, training participants were taking pictures together.
