LitOUTer Project Activities Continues: Calling on High School Students to Protect the Black Sea Ecosystem and Reduce Marine Litter on the World Environment Day 2023

On June 8, 2023, the 88th Year Republic Anatolian High School in Trabzon hosted a special training session to mark World Environment Day. The event was organized in collaboration with the LitOUTer Project and Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) to raise awareness about marine litter and promote sustainable practices among students.

The training, led by the KTU LitOUTer project team, featured distinguished speakers. Prof. Dr. Fatma TELLİ KARAKOÇ opened the session with an engaging introduction, followed by a comprehensive presentation by Prof. Dr. Hacer SAĞLAM. The event concluded with an interactive discussion facilitated by Prof. Dr. Coşkun ERÜZ, encouraging active participation from the students.

Around 150 9th and 10th-grade students attended the event, eagerly sharing their ideas and solutions to reduce marine litter. Inspired by the discussions, the school launched a recycling campaign for its environmental program. Students pledged to avoid littering and prioritize recycling, showcasing their commitment to protecting the environment and addressing marine pollution.

This initiative reflects the shared efforts of educators, students, and the LitOUTer Project to create a cleaner, more sustainable future.
